Our Story
At least five generations of our family have lived in this area of Thonburi, the previous capital city
of Siam, now part of Bangkok.
Our grandfather, the handsome and well known Major General Phraya Indra Vijit (Ratana Avut) married our grand mother, Khun Ying (Lady) Wongs Indra Vijit (คุณหญิงวงศ์ อินทรวิชิต) in 1913, after his return from studying at the Germany Army Academy and later working as a Sub Lieutenant of the Germany Army.
While he became highly successful in bringing new technology and knowledge from Germany into developing Siam at the time, our grandmother was looking after the household and our big family so well that every single one in our extended family knew each other well and little children growing up with the warmth of their aunts and uncles in addition to their own parents.
In her later years, our grandmother spent her time living with her youngest daughter, Kasayapi Avut Indra Vijit, our mother, who married our handsome architect father Sidhi Xuto, and her four grand children in a cozy house designed our charming father, who cleverly used the nature of wind and sunshine and shades in his design.
Kasayapi, our mother, or Khun Kas as referred to with love and respect by her colleagues, was a modern woman in her time. She was much loved by everyone who knew her with her sweet smile, friendliness, thoughtfulness, and kindness.
While single handedly raised her four children after our father passed away, she opened her cozy home to welcome families, friends, and her colleagues of several nationalities to meet up and enjoyed countless activities. These visits and activities in later years have become much cherished memories of many who have spent times here.
Just like the common silver barb, common fish swimming in harmony in Thai rivers since old days, many of those visiting friends have become our extended family through these years.
Our mom inspired us to share our home to others who enjoy the serenity among nature right in the middle of the old city of Thonburi, and we name the hotel after her “Kasayapi”.
Started of with ideas among the three of us, 2 sisters, Noom Xuto and Nuem Xuto and 1 brother, Num Xuto, to have our new home and hotel as similar to our old home as possible while carrying on stories of Thonburi that we are so proud of to share with our guests.
We design the 10-room, 2 story hotel with different interior decorations, a small pool, and a garden and of course a big open-air lobby like we used to welcome our friends in the old days.
It was our shared goal to have our home not just a small hotel but a space for people who share the same interest as us three to have a peaceful corner to enjoy their activities such as art and craft, painting and photography, animals and gardening, and life learning etc.
With the loss of Num, our much-loved brother, in the middle of the project, much of his wonderful ideas remains in the design of the hotel that we still smile with fond memories of our gentle and loving brother each time we see little here and there in the hotel that were from his ideas.
Since the opening of “Kasayapi”, we have seen our wishes come true. It gives us smiles to see hotel guests, workshop attendants, event visitors sharing and receiving good time here and leaving with friendship and good memories.
During the hotel closure due to COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve teamed up with our friends to make over a thousand face shields to send to small hospitals countrywide. As needs changed through the pandemic, we then continued with making snacks, bottled soft drinks and food boxes to support medical personal and the homeless.
At the same time, our non-chemical garden has since been used to grow local herbs like fingerroot and kariyat to share with those in need to get through the pandemic.
